Photo Point is a location-scouting app for photographers and videographers, made by an independent developer. This page explains what data Photo Point handles and how.
When you save a spot, Photo Point records:
Photo Point also briefly checks your device's motion state (e.g. walking vs. driving) at the moment you save a spot, to suggest an automatic tag. This happens on your device and is not stored as raw motion data — only the resulting tag (like "Driving" or "On Foot") is saved.
Your data stays in your own iCloud account. Photo Point stores everything in Apple's CloudKit, using your personal private iCloud database, so it can sync between your own devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac). The developer of Photo Point does not operate a server that receives, stores, or has access to your entries, photos, or location history.
Photo Point does not include advertising, third-party analytics SDKs, or trackers, and does not sell your data. Apart from the optional cloud forecast described below, it does not share your data with third parties.
Photo Point uses the following Apple frameworks, subject to Apple's own privacy terms:
The Mac app's trip planner can show the forecast cloud cover at each stop. To get it, Photo Point sends that stop's location, rounded to about 1 km, and the date to Open-Meteo, a free weather forecast service. Nothing else is sent — no names, notes, photos, or account details. Open-Meteo's handling of those requests is governed by its own terms.
Some features let you open a saved location in Google Maps, Waze, or Google Street View. These only launch when you explicitly tap them, and only send the coordinates needed to open that location — nothing else about your Photo Point data is shared. Use of those apps/services is governed by their own privacy policies.
Photo Point can import locations from a JSON file or pasted text that you produce yourself using an AI chat tool of your choice. Photo Point does not connect to any AI service directly — you copy a prompt from Photo Point, use it in whatever AI tool you choose, and paste the result back in. Any data shared with that AI tool is between you and that tool's own provider.
Deleting an entry in Photo Point deletes it from your iCloud private database. Deleting the app removes all local data; your iCloud copy can be removed by deleting the entries first, or via iCloud storage management in iOS/macOS Settings.
